What is it?

Tilt table testing is a specialized test used to evaluate the cause of unexplained fainting (syncope) or dizziness. It measures how blood pressure and heart rate respond to changes in position.

Why it’s Done / Who Needs it

  • Unexplained fainting or dizziness
  • Suspected POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome)
  • Evaluating causes of syncope when EKG or Holter monitor are normal

What to Expect

  • You lie flat on a special table, secured with straps
  • The table tilts upright while your blood pressure and heart rate are monitored
  • The test usually lasts 30–60 minutes and is supervised by a physician
